Cormo & Icelandic Sheep

Text Box: I have to admit I really like sheep. As kids, my siblings and I had sheep for a 4-H project, and I couldn’t wait until we could get some for our own farm.
We started with some Icelandic sheep. We were drawn to the grass based genetics and who could resist all that long flowing wool and so many colors. Icelandic are definitely an interesting breed. Thousands of years of history packed into little sheep with big personality. We are narrowing our focus on Icelandics, after building our Icelandic flock up to over thirty animals, we are undertaking a strict culling process. We are selecting for wool quality on growthy, muscular animals with as much heat and parasite tolerance as possible. If you have never had lamb, grass fed Icelandic lamb is great introduction— very mild. Occasionally we offer breeding stock for sale.
Then came the Cormos. A medium sized sheep covered with beautiful fine wool. The Cormos have adjusted well to Wisconsin life. We traveled to Wyoming and Montana to obtain breeding stock . We have found the Cormos to be very easy keepers. Our expectations have been exceeded with Cormos. We are undertaking a selection process with our Cormos to continually improve wool quality and lamb growth as well as insure they maintain their low maintenance nature. We do coat our Cormo to protect their wool. This means changing the coats multiple times a year to keep up with wool growth. Currently we do offer some rams for sale, although most are not registered.
All of our sheep are maintained on a grass and hay only diet. We firmly believe that grain does not belong in a ruminants diet, and well fed pasture based animals are healthy, low maintenance animals.
The Wool and Yarn page shows a variety of great wool product from our sheep. Our Grass Fed Beef and Lamb page offers more information on our Grass Fed lamb.
