Icelandic Fleece |
|
Our Icelandic Sheep are kept on fresh clean pasture during the grazing season then shorn just before we have to start feeding hay. This allows for very clean, vegetable matter free fleece. Icelandic sheep are a primitive breed that produces a dual coated fleece in a large variety of colors for an incredible natural palette for fiber enthusiasts. Their fleece consists of an outer coat called tog and an inner coat called thel. Thel is fine and is usually 2-3” long, the tog is coarser and can be 7-10” long. The coats can be kept together for a unique soft yarn with incredible strength or separated for an wide range of final use applications—anything from next to the skin soft to hard wearing rugs. Fleece weights vary greatly from 1lb for a small lamb to 4 lb from larger adults. Prices vary depending on the type and color of fleece please contact me for current availability. $10-12/lb |
